Sulzbach’s historical claim to fame stems from the birth of two industries of rather disproportionate importance to the village’s size. Both also sprang from the same family. The Sulzbach village smith, Johann Nikolaus Stumm (born 1669), bought up several old Hunsrück hammermills and ran them with such great success that he became the father of the Saarland’s smelting industry.
This expanded to include the municipality of Wolsfeld, and in 1970, these plus four other municipalities were combined as the result of communal reform to join the Bitburg-Prüm Verbandsgemeinde. The municipal council of Dockendorf consists of six councilors elected by the local plurality election in Rhineland-Palatinate on May 25, 2014.
In his first full big league season, Barney batted.276/.313/.353 and placed seventh in National League Rookie Of The Year voting. In 2012, Barney won a Fielding Bible Award as the best fielding second baseman in MLB.
