These objects were often a recognition the status of venerated member in an African community. Together the horns are a reference to flames and, ultimately, the rising sun as an emblem of brightness, splendour and the supreme principle of the nature.
Codes, when they prove to be stable over evolutionary time, are constraints of this kind. The most fundamental such frozen accident was the emergence of DNA as a self-replicating molecule, but the history of life on earth has been characterised by a succession of comparably dramatic events, each of which can be conceptualised as the emergence of a new code.
Drapers’ Hall was constructed 1831-32 in Greek Revival style to be the headquarters of the Coventry Drapers’ Guild and an east wing was added in 1864. The basement of the building was used as an air raid shelter for 200 people during the Second World War.

Her personal life (she has lived in Lebanon, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Greece and France) and her curiosity have enabled Hamdan to playfully use various dialects of Arabic in her lyrics, which alternate between Lebanese, Kuwaiti, Palestinian, Egyptian and Bedouin, as well as some of the code-switching which is so typical of Middle-Eastern humour.
A tower of such height requires stiffness, which in turn would require enormous amounts of concrete and steel and a lengthy period of time for it to settle. The ability of the engineers to understand the complexity of a project this size has also come into question. The play was twice adapted for films. A 1928 silent film The Farmer’s Wife directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Jameson Thomas and Lillian Hall-Davis and a 1941 sound film The Farmer’s Wife directed by Leslie Arliss and starring Basil Sydney and Patricia Roc.
