His parents were particular about education and sent him to Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education (SAICE) in Pondicherry. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, and did his Ph.D. from Cornell University.
This was largely the result of the contradiction between the expansion of clerical and technical jobs and the exclusion of black and unskilled workers from those jobs. Beginning in the North in the late 1950s and 1960s, the movement was characterized by the refusal of black, Hispanic, and women workers to settle for wages below the national minimum.

Pattnaik was married to Pushpashree Pattnaik. Pattnaik obtained Master of Technology from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and PhD from University of Chicago, Illinois. Pattnaik traveled to Chicago for research at the University of Chicago.
In 2009, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the CHP, made him an offer to join the campaign for general elections. Standing at the 11th position for his party’s list of candidates in Izmir Province, he failed to get elected.

Dick Whittington Tavern. The Dick Whittington Tavern is a public house at 100 Westgate Street, Gloucester, possibly built for the family of Richard Whittington (Dick Whittington), Mayor of London. The building is grade I listed with Historic England.
In May 2011, Rayford joined The Mannish Boys. He sang lead vocals on nine of the songs on their album, Double Dynamite, that won the Best Traditional Blues Album title in May 2013 at the Blues Music Awards.
