Lamas (2004) considers that there are two different species, M. sulkowskyi ranging from Colombia to central Perú, and M. lympharis Butler, 1873, ranging from central Peru to Bolivia. Morpho sulkowskyi and Morpho lympharis uniquely occupy Tropical Andes cloud forests, at altitudes between 1500 and 3500 m.
He became Bishop of Pasto, Colombia on December 2, 1893. He was noted for his generous charity to the faithful of his diocese and his ardent attacks against the liberal party from the pulpit. As most of the Colombian Church hierarchy, Ezequiel Moreno aligned himself with the Colombian Conservative Party.
He served under three monarchs—Alfonso VI, Urraca, and Alfonso VII—and was loyal to all of them. He figures largely in the contemporary Historia compostellana, an important fact considering the complete loss of all of his own charters.
Though Fontaneda doubted that Ponce de León had really gone to Florida looking for the waters, the account was included in the Historia general de los hechos de los castellanos of Antonio de Herrera y Tordesillas of 1615.
