They called it Spanish because of its tango or habanera beat. The habanera had previously arrived in the Caribbean from West Africa. They would just hang onto each other and just grind back and forth in one spot all night.
The film was the last of Universal’s science fiction monster films released before Island of Terror (1966). (Universal’s Curse of the Undead and The Leech Woman both came out a year or so later, but are considered horror films, not science fiction.)

Frank Agnew, a student at Rock Run School in the 1940s, restored the school with funds from the Harvest Foundation. Unlike most log rural schoolhouses of the time, the Rock Run School was constructed as a frame building.
