Some of the buildings comprising the Alberto Hurtado University feature German gothic architecture, for example, Cienfuegos 41. Avenida Brasil, which begins on the north side of the Alameda just past the metro República, has many cafés, restaurants, and bars.
The largest of these streets was and still is Avenida Alvaro Obregon, originally called Avenida Jalisco. Small parks such as Plaza Rio de Janeiro and Plaza Luis Cabrera were added for more green space.
