The wine that is now called Blanquette de Limoux is considered by wine historians to be the world’s first sparkling wine, and was produced in Limoux in 1531 by monks in the monastery of Saint-Hilaire.
The main church is the Church of Saint Nicholas, situated in a dendrological park; built between 1884 and 1892 in a Russian style unique to the region, it was founded by the boyar Gheorghe Ruset Roznovanu, whose family had an estate at Roznov for many years.

At the Second Spring meeting two weeks later, Quiz contested the Jockey Club Plate in which he defeated the 1799 St Leger winner Cockfighter over the four mile Beacon Course, despite being opposed in the betting.
