Barr was married, and he and his wife, Shelley, had three sons. He was inducted into the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. Barr died in 2009 at age 74 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

His last fight in the UFC was against Tamdan McCrory at UFC Fight Night 10 where he lost via triangle choke. Since being cut from the UFC, Spratt has fought on regional shows, where his submission defense has been exposed on many occasions, while also picking up some impressive wins mainly due to his strong stand-up skills and heavy hands.
