Overall, Laury is known as the pioneer of silk-screened images on quilts. Using an unconventional strategy for an artist, Laury chose not to be represented by a gallery or dealer. Because of this, Laury did not sell many of the pieces she exhibited; instead, she preferred to commission pieces with architects.
At a meeting in February 1920 the company’s board voted to allocate £20,000 to the project rather than seek donations from the company’s workforce, and commissioned Lutyens to design it. Lutyens’ commission was confirmed in October 1921, for a fee of £700 plus out-of-pocket expenses.
Analysis of the images prompted the division of tissue damage into 4 categories: Fluid displacement by device insertion frequently resulted in ruptured vessels. Severing and dragging were consistently present along the insertion track, but did not correlate with tip geometry.
